ERA 1:                            

 

 

Pastor William "Billy" Barnett

The humble beginning of the congregation of New Grove Baptist Church grew out of the (white) congregation of Moores Grove Baptist Church in 1871. The newly formed colored congregation held their meeting on the 4th Sunday of each month under a Brush Arbor.

        

1883 - the church was provided with the deeds of the present site, and the name of the group of organized colored worshippers was changed to New Grove Baptist Church.

ERA 2 & 3: Pastor John B. Gordon and N.W. Culbreath

While records do not give tenure of Rev. Barnett, the second Pastor was Rev. John B. Gordon followed by the third pastor Rev. N.W. Culbreath. The Rev. Culbreath tenured lasted until November 1926.

ERA 4:

 

 

Pastor R.A. Hall

1927 - Rev. R. A. Hall was called to pastor and served for more than 41 years. Through many danger toils and snared the New Grove family was faced with challenges. In 1932, the building was destroyed by a tornado. Later a new building was erected and numerous auxiliaries were formed. 

         

An Iron church bell was part of the new beginning and the ringing of the church bell was part of funeral processions. Annual events were introduced. Among the annual events were Homecoming and Revival, which continues to this date. Homecoming is celebrated the 4th Sunday of August and the Monday after Homecoming starts Revival week.

1968 -The congregation was blessed with another sanctuary that had taken time, money and talent from many local members and supporters.

ERA 5:

 

 

Pastor Andrew Clark

1969 - Rev. Andrew Clark became the fifth pastor of New Grove and served until 1979.

ERA 6:

 

 

Pastor James Washington, Jr.

1980 - James Washington, Jr., became sixth pastor.  By August the church approved extending service to second and fourth Sunday.

1981- The church became incorporated.

1982- Every Sunday worship service became a reality.

1984 - The First album "Give Me Jesus All the Way" was released by the Gospel Choir.

1986 - The church marched into the the new sanctuary.

1987 - The western parking lot was paved.  The New Birth Singers released their album, "Fill Me with Your Spirit".

1990 - The church was presented with a replica of Harriet Power's Quilt (the original hangs in the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.).

1992 - The church marched into the New Fellowship Hall.

1993 - The Computer Lab and Academic Assistance Programs were organized.

1994 - The Educational Research Center was organized.  The Utility house was constructed.

1995 - The Beautification Committee erected a church sign.

1998 - Teresa Haynes released a recording "He Lives in Me".

1999 - 8:00  morning service began.

2000 - Church van was purchased.

2001 - New lights were purchased for the sanctuary; Slim and The Supreme Angels performed for Pastor's Anniversary  Concert.

2002 - Ladies in Waiting presented the play "You Betta Know Him For Yourself".

2003 - Full time summer camp began.  Step team ,Steppers for Christ Debut.
